Have your child learn American history through the lens of American Girl Dolls. We will focus on major events of the time period while discussing what life was like for both children and adults in those times. Students will also learn the culture, geography, lifestyle, inventions and so much more about each time period! Students will read the book independently and come to class ready to discuss!
Students will explore ….
- 1853 – New Orleans – Meet Cecile
- 1904 – Industrial Revolution – Meet Samantha
- 1934 – Great Depression – Meet Kit
- 1974 – Social Changes in America – Meet Julie
Students will need the “original” Meets ______book. These can easily be downloaded onto a KINDLE via AMAZON or obtained via the Public Library.
Each American Girl / Historical Time Period will be studied for two days during one week. The first day, students will learn about the history of the time period. The second day, the students will discuss, analyze and explore the American Girl book. For homework, after class one, the students will be asked to bring something to class two that represents the time period. It can be a physical object (3D) or a 2D print out from the internet to share. If the students would like to be creative and create something, such as a craft or a food, that also works! Students will share this during the second class of the week. Additionally (and obviously), students need to read each American Girl book weekly!
Class will meet on the following dates:
July 7 and July 9 – Meet Cecile
July 14 and July 16 – Meet Samantha
July 21 and July 23 – Meet Kit
July 28 and July 30 – Meet Julie
NOTE: Registration deadline is July 1, 2020.
