Introduction to Oil Painting – Grades 8 – 12 – Winter 2021 – 10 Weeks
Friday, January 15 2021 @ 10:00AM - Friday, March 26 2021 @ 11:30AM EST| $250.00
Learn the fundamentals of oil painting. We explore the entire process of oil painting and the important concepts of gesture, shape design, and composition. You will also learn what materials are needed, how to get set up, and the techniques used to apply paint.
Oil paints, unlike watercolors and acrylics, are difficult to work with due to the length of time it takes to dry. The chemistry behind the blending must be perfect, and the proper finish is very hard to achieve. When done correctly, very few paint types appear as beautiful as oil paint does. Mastered by the greatest professional artists, oil paintings allow for a depth of color, demonstration of perspective, and vividness of brushstrokes unmatched by other techniques. You will learn to paint depictions of still life, landscapes, portraits, and many other fine art techniques.
Supplies / Materials needed:
Oil Paints (red, yellow, blue, brown, black, orange, green, white, purple, pink)
5 canvases approx. size 8×12
Linseed oil (of you can’t find it poppyseed or walnut oil works). This is used as a paint thinner for the paint.
A variety of paintbrushes that are designed for oil painting. (In oil painting, large bristle brushes are best for washes and the broad areas of backgrounds. Mid-size bristle brushes with sharp edges can also be used for some detail. Finer details are best accomplished with small, round, sable brushes.)
