Summer Book Club for Grades 4 – 7 – Entire Series of Eight Meetings – July & August 2020
Monday, July 6 2020 @ 11:00AM - Monday, August 24 2020 @ 12:30PM EDT| $80.00
Although the SUMMER BOOK CLUB – ENTIRE SERIES (as listed here) is SOLD OUT, there are SOME REMAINING SLOTS for individual books. You can register your children by picking and choosing WHICH weeks/books you would like to register them for. PLEASE pick and choose according to interested and reading level. The “individual meetings” availability is limited as we want to make sure all students have a chance to participate in the discussion.
Have your child join us in a SUMMER READING BOOK CLUB!
Meetings are held WEEKLY.
During the 90-minute book club, students will discuss literary elements of the book, theme, pondering questions, the ending, excitement, disappointment and more!
Following class, there will be an OPTIONAL, SHORT follow up assignment of the student’s choice to show that they UNDERSTOOD the novel. The student will pick from a written, creative or technology based response. Together, the parent and student decide if they will take part in this activity (not required – an option). Students have two weeks to submit this for an evaluation. During class, the FOLLOW UP ASSIGNMENT will be presented as “homework”; however, ultimately the parents have the choice.
Students MUST pre-read (or pre-listen on audio) the book to participate.
Additionally, parents do have the opportunity to sign up for INDIVIDUAL BOOK CLUB MEETINGS (instead of all eight meetings). Although more work for us, we are doing this to allow for the GREATEST flexibility in this offering. NOTE: If you register for individual book clubs, your student will NOT be added to our LMS, CANVAS, and instead receive the link for class via email.
Parents: Please read the summaries of each of these books to make sure the content is appropriate for your children. Remember, there is a HUGE difference between a 4th and 7th grader. I wanted to make sure we offered a variety! In my opinion, Nothing but the Truth, One Crazy Summer and The Devil’s Arithmetic are the “more mature” books. You know what your children can handle via the content and level. Choose wisely!
